In many ways, I feel as if my job at the Meakem Group was meant to be. After majoring in computer programming at college, I started my career in the insurance business at Legal & General America. From there, I moved to Capital Asset Management Group in Washington, D.C., handling life insurance and brokerage documentation, as well as customer service issues. But I was ready for a career change – and when I had my first interview with Traci, we seemed to really connect. She said, “If this is what you want to do, I’ll support you 110%.”
As someone who thrives on new challenges, I love it when Traci asks me to sit in on her client calls. I learn so much – and not just about finances: I discover all the ways we can help clients, but I also pay close attention to how Traci conducts her business. She’s a straight shooter and I admire her passion for her work. I feel fortunate to be part of a firm where I know that I will grow professionally and personally, every day.
In my role as a Client Services Associate, I mainly support our advisors Morgan and Suzanne. I enjoy the variety of tasks I perform, whether it’s preparing documents for clients, updating account information with Raymond James, or having the opportunity to be on those client calls, which would never happen at the larger companies that I’ve worked for.
My job began on March 16, 2020. I was in the office for just a day and a half before Traci sent us all home to work remotely because of the pandemic. Needless to say, it was an unusual time to join the practice, but while I got to know my co-workers and our clients, I also studied for my General Securities Representative exam, known as the Series 7. I want to learn everything about this industry, from the inside out. Mastering new skills and bringing the experience I acquired from my previous positions to our firm is really fulfilling to me.
Even though my family and I moved to Maryland, I still feel I’m a New Yorker at heart: I’m a New York Giants football fan, despite living here for many years…though when it comes to basketball, my favorite team is the Miami Heat, not the New York Knicks. But when it comes to financial planning, I’m definitely on Team Traci.
On a Personal Note
If I’m not working or studying, I’m spending time with my wife and our four-year-old daughter. I’m an avid reader, mostly autobiographies and suspense novels. I like watching and playing sports, working out at the gym and writing. A wise English teacher once told me, “Write to release what you’re feeling,” so I took her advice and really enjoy doing that, too.
Some of my fondest memories of growing up in New York revolve around the holiday season. There is nothing quite like it! The atmosphere, the holiday spirit and the lighting of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center all bring back my happiest times of living in the city.
