One of the most rewarding parts of running a small business is helping young professionals gain real-world experience early in their careers.
At The Meakem Group, internships have never been about busy work. We want interns to see how financial planning conversations happen in real life, understand how a team works together behind the scenes, and build skills and confidence they can carry into their futures.
In this video, former interns Emily and Shifra reflect on what they learned during their time with our team and how those experiences shaped both their financial habits and career paths.
Emily interned with The Meakem Group before her senior year of college and later went on to earn her master’s degree in accounting from Florida State University and become a Certified Public Accountant. During her internship, she attended client meetings, helped with portfolio research, and learned the importance of financial literacy and thinking ahead financially at a young age.
Shifra interned with The Meakem Group in 2021 and was exposed to many different areas of finance and wealth management. What she learned about investing early influenced her own savings habits and ultimately inspired her to switch majors and pursue a business and finance degree.
One thing both interns highlighted was the value of seeing real client conversations unfold. Sitting in on meetings helped them better understand not just the technical side of financial planning, but also the personal side of helping people navigate important life decisions and future goals.
At The Meakem Group, helping people become Smart About Money™ extends beyond our clients. Mentorship, education, and creating opportunities for growth have always been an important part of who we are.
